What is CBD?

Definition of CBD: Did you know that hemp, or cannabis sativa, is composed of thousands of molecules? Some have very interesting properties. CBD, which stands for CannaBiDiol, is one of these high potential molecules. The best known is certainly the THC molecule or Delta-9 TetraHydroCannabinol. Unlike THC, CBD does not have psychoactive properties and is therefore not considered a drug or a toxic substance.

To summarize, CBD is :

  • a molecule naturally present in the hemp plant
  • an active substance with many interesting properties
  • a substance present in derived products such as flowers, oils, resins, crystals or cosmetics

In a more scientific way, CBD is defined as follows:

  • IUPAC name: 2-[(1R,6R)-6-isopropenyl-3-methylcyclohex-2-en-1-yl]-5-pentylbenzene-1,3-diol
  • CAS No.: 13956-29-1
  • ECHA No: 100.215.986
  • PubChem: 644019
  • Gross formula: C21H30O2 [Isomers]

Having defined CBD, let's now discover the history of this substance.

What is the history of CBD?

Let's discover together the history of CBD through the ages, as well as the different uses made of this molecule over time.

For thousands of years, the hemp and cannabis plant has been used in many civilizations for therapeutic purposes.

During the Neolithic period, traces of hemp were discovered in areas suitable for cultivation. Archaeologists have also discovered ceramics and pots at the site of Xianrendong, Jiangxi province in China, dating back to 8000 BC, containing sporadic hemp plant motifs.

Various older traces have also been discovered in Europe and Japan, which suggests that the hemp plant was known by most of the civilizations living on these territories.

The origin of hemp, geographically speaking, is not known with precision, but it is certain that this plant comes from Asia and that it was then commercialized or sown in other territories of the globe. Some archaeological researches have allowed to estimate its appearance in some prehistoric homes at the same time, that is to say between - 11 500 and - 10 200 BC.

The hemp plant is certainly one of the first plants domesticated by human beings, not for its therapeutic virtues at first, but for its solid fibers and its seeds as well as its capacity of adaptation.

Hemp in Antiquity

During the ancient period, which saw the birth of many technologies and scientific ideas, hemp was consumed in a different way.

Indeed, hemp is for one of the first times of humanity consumed in a medicinal way. This use is proven by the Ebers Papyrus, written around 1500 BC. The latter mentions the use of hemp oil to treat vaginal inflammations.

If we go back to the East of the globe, and particularly in China, we can find the Shennong Bencao Jing, which lists cannabis as a drug because it would have powers to lighten the body and the mind to travel.

On the Greek side, the first scientific observation takes place on this plant, since the Greek botanist, Dioscorides, describes for the first time, cannabis sativa in the review De Materia Medica.

Of course, hemp has undergone many classifications during its great epic through the ages, especially during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. But it is during the last century that the first studies were made on this plant and some interesting discoveries were made.

In the 1930s, the hemp market was very controversial and its share of the black market was constantly evolving.

We find this system in the United States when, in 1920, many members of parliament believe that hemp is a dangerous plant for consumers. Faced with the proliferation of the black market for this plant, the Puritan lobby took an interest in it and the American authorities launched awareness campaigns by making this plant look like an illegal product.

To do this, the authorities put up posters in newspapers and in the streets with slogans such as "Marijuana is Devil", with a background representing the devil on fire.

More extremist campaigns then take place to impact the population and their consumption of hemp, by putting forward racist remarks. For that, the authorities made a link between the Afro-American population and hemp by putting forward their music, which is jazz, and the madness that this plant can provoke, such as murderous desires and degenerations. The newspapers of the time also put forward the correlation between cannabis and violence.

In 1937, the authorities went further in the fight against this plant by adopting a law to reduce the production, consumption and marketing of cannabis. This law is the Marijuana Tax Act.

But in the rest of the world, many countries believe that cannabis is a dangerous plant and only brings problems to humanity. For example, the international convention of Geneva is accepted in 1925 by many countries, such as Turkey and Egypt, which consider that the consumption of this plant is the basis of human debility.

A textile use endangered!

Following these various measures, the ancestral use of hemp as a textile is endangered, because few benefits are recognized.

Moreover, it is greatly competed by exotic fibres, such as jute fibre, or kenaf (also called Deccan hemp), as well as by synthetic fibres such as nylon. The use of hemp in the textile industry therefore declined greatly in the middle of the 20th century.

For example, in France, the industrial hemp industry was very important and represented about 176,000 hectares in 1840. At the time of the various conventions and bills, industrial hemp was reduced to only 3400 hectares in 1939.

In 1940, in some countries, historical events such as the Second World War, allowed hemp cultivation to start again. For example, in the United States, hectares of hemp were authorized in order to relaunch the production of hemp fibres. Soldiers, especially rangers, used hemp in their grappling hooks and ropes to climb cliffs.

The strength and usefulness of hemp has been recognized for years and was even used during great maritime expeditions. Indeed, sails and ropes for ships were made from hemp.

Why is hemp so diverse?

Cannabis is a plant that can be found in different parts of the world and that adapts perfectly to its environment. To cultivate it, it does not require any particular supervision, nor the addition of fertilizers.

According to the different eras, hemp has managed to develop in all possible ways of consumption.

For example, we can find the Indian hemp originating from Tibet in a recreational use, because of the psychotropic effects activated by this variety. Sometimes called "hash", "hashish" or "hashish", this variety is still subject to misunderstanding. It can also be found under the synonyms of "weed" and "beuh".

We can find a medicinal use of this plant, in particular with the CBD which is a product whose properties are recently discovered. CBD comes from the hemp plant and is cultivated in CBD farms.

Hemp has such a diversity thanks to the knowledge that has been passed down by the different ancestral peoples on the ways of production and consumption over the centuries. Today, as a result of crossbreeding by producers and researchers, we can find great varieties of hemp and cannabis consumed in various forms around the world.

Industrial hemp

Hemp gives rise to 3 raw materials: fibre, hemp seed and hempseed. These three materials are used for the various purposes that we know about hemp. Industrial hemp is used in various fields such as construction (thermal and sound insulation), cosmetics (creams, soaps), food supplements, the preparation of medicines, the elaboration of clothes and ropes.

As you can see, the legal cannabis market in France is growing and will continue to grow.

What are the methods of cultivation of cannabis?

There are 3 growing methods that are used today to produce legal cannabis:

  • Outdoor
  • Indoor
  • Greenhouse

Outdoor cultivation is cultivation in the open air. The plants benefit from the sun's rays to develop. This can be seen in the colour of the flowers, which tend to be a darker green. The cannabinoid and terpene content is higher than in indoor cultivation. This is called outdoor CBD.

Indoor cultivation is a more recent development than outdoor cultivation. Indoor CBD has a higher CBD content, thanks to the presence of trichomes (which are resin glands) in large quantities. Thanks to the lamps present in this mode of culture, the indoor one presents a consequent advantage, which is a better control by managing the duration of exposure and of rest. This mode of culture is also not very economical and very expensive. Indeed, the lamps and the maintenance are very expensive since it is necessary to maintain a certain temperature in a constant way.

The CBD greenhouse is a mode of culture allowing to have all the beneficial effects of the 2 other modes of culture. Indeed, the green house makes it possible to cause a micro climate, thanks to the greenhouses and makes it possible to cultivate CBD of better quality without needing an important maintenance.

Today, the vast majority of CBD that can be found on the market comes from Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland, since cultivation is allowed in these countries.

Why take CBD?

CBD is a molecule with many beneficial effects on the human body and the mental health of consumers.

Like another molecule present in cannabis and in the hemp plant, which is THC, otherwise known as tetrahydrocannabinol, it does not present psychotropic and psychoactive effects.

To understand its effects, we must take these elements into account for the following. This will allow us to have a global idea of the action of CBD and why it may seem useful to consume it.

First of all, studies have been conducted during the first research on this molecule and the results were conclusive. The active principles of this molecule would allow to limit the side effects of certain diseases, such as Parkinson's disease by limiting the tremors linked to this symptom.

It has also been proven that this molecule could reduce convulsions linked to epileptic seizures, or even reduce the epileptic seizures themselves.

CBD in the fight against common mental disorders

CBD is also a great asset in the fight against the various mental disorders that we can encounter during our daily life or during our entire life.

For example, when consumed, CBD will bind to CB1 receptors, which encompass the nervous system and brain, as well as CB2 receptors, which encompass the immune and digestive systems, located in the endocannabinoid system.

This system is naturally present in every species on earth, including us humans, and allows CBD to work there. Indeed, by binding to CB1 and CB2 receptors, it will help maintain the balance of certain molecules in order to bring well-being.

It thus helps people suffering from anxiety, by acting on the hormonal balance and by having a calming effect on the brain.

Which CBD to choose?

Today, different varieties of products contain CBD molecules such as :

  • CBD Flowers
  • CBD Oils
  • CBD Capsules
  • CBD Resins
  • CBD Wax
  • CBD Crystals
  • CBD E-liquids
  • CBD Cosmetics

Let's discover them in more detail below.

Flowers

CBD flowers are increasingly commercialized products that are very appreciated by different consumers around the world.

The manufacturing process of CBD flowers is very complex and requires an exemplary specialization of the producer. To arrive at the final product, it is necessary to apply different steps that will allow the flowers to give them their specific taste and appearance.

First of all, CBD flowers come from the hemp plant, which is a licensed plant in some countries under certain conditions. Once the plant reaches maturity, the flowers can begin their manufacturing process.

For this, the producer cuts the plant, removes the flowers or buds, and proceeds to manicure to limit the presence of seeds from the female plants as much as possible.

Then, just like the maturing of a cheese or the ageing of a good wine, it is important to carry out a process of curring (refining) on the CBD flowers. The flowers are dried in specific areas, which can contain up to 50% humidity, in order to allow the water to leave the flower and make it consumable.

This way, you get the best quality legal weed thanks to the different steps performed on these products.

CBD flowers of different varieties!

Various varieties of CBD flowers, containing different flavors and aromas, are now offered. For example, the Lemon Haze will offer lemony aromas while the Orange Bud, will offer orange aromas.

But we can find flowers presenting, for example, the following aromas:

  • Citrus
  • Mint
  • Earthy
  • Peppery
  • Sweet
  • Fruity

It is also possible to find other flower aromas which we will discuss below.

Lemon Haze

The Lemon Haze is a very popular variety in the whole world thanks to the various lemony and sweet flavours which it gives off. It is a Haze variety that comes from a cross between the 2 varieties Lemon Skunk and Super Silver Haze.

Sour Diesel

This strain is very popular among CBD and recreational cannabis users. It leans towards the Sativa side, with over 70% Sativa origin. It is the result of the fusion between Diesel and Northern Light.

Orange Turbo

Orange Turbo is a very interesting variety because of its different flavours, such as orange and sweet. It is very popular and is the result of the fusion between Turbo Diesel and Orange Creamsicle.

OG Kush

This strain probably rings a bell because it is one of the most popular in the cannabis world. It comes from the Afghan family of the same name.

ACDC

No, it's not the world famous hard rock band, but a cannabis strain. This is one of the strains that can contain one of the highest doses of CBD, approaching 20%. It is derived from Cannatonic, which is a very well-known variety.

Amnesia Haze

The Amnesia Haze is known by all, by its popularity and its effects when we speak about recreational cannabis. Being mostly Sativa, it offers a sweet and spicy taste. As its name suggests, it comes from Amnesia and Haze.

Gelato

Gelato is a very famous variety of cannabis and offers very interesting flavours. It comes from the fusion between 2 varieties like Girl Scout Cookie and Sunset Sherbet.

Strawberry

This Sativa-dominant strain is widely consumed all over the world. It offers fruity flavours, with notes of Strawberry. This variety comes from the crossing between Amnesia and Strawberry Cough.

How to consume CBD flowers?

The most common ways to consume CBD flowers are by infusion or vaporization. This means that you can consume CBD flowers using a dedicated vaporizer or vapo (cannabis vaporizer for inhalation).

Be aware that it is forbidden and not recommended to smoke CBD flowers, as if it were a joint. This mode of consumption is not desirable and can cause damage to your lungs and respiratory system as for tobacco.

The Oils

CBD oils, also known as hemp oils or cannabis oils are also widely used and have many benefits. In English, we find these oils under the name of "CBD oil". They do not smell, and do not require any special preparations, and can be consumed at any time. There are even dedicated CBD oils for your pets that we will see later.

The manufacturing process of these oils is very interesting and very important, because it allows to obtain a quality oil.

The best method of extracting CBD oil is cold extraction. This extraction is done with alcohol, more precisely called ethanol, which is a molecule naturally produced by plants in nature and in breeding.

It therefore allows to benefit from a more important contribution in nutrients and CBD, in particular on the extraction on hemp seeds. For example, cold extraction allows to remove more elements than CO2 extraction.

Moreover, it allows to have a pure product without any chemical or human addition, which can alter the taste and the quality of the final product.

Concerning the oil that we consume, it is composed of CBD oil, but it is also composed with vegetable oil in order to have a fatty body to activate the CBD. This also makes it easier for consumers to swallow, which can sometimes taste peculiar.

To consume CBD oil, it is important to apply the right method, since CBD oil, if swallowed directly, will experience the first pass effect. This effect is produced when the oil and the CBD arrive quickly in the liver. The liver enzymes will eliminate the CBD and delay its action.

Thus, it is necessary to use the sublingual method, which consists in taking oil under the tongue, during thirty seconds to one minute and to swallow then. The CBD will be absorbed by the mucous membranes under the tongue and will be directed directly into the bloodstream, without passing through the liver.

Huile CBD consommation

Capsules

CBD capsules are another type of product available to consume this molecule. For this, it is necessary to understand the possible interaction between these capsules and our body. Indeed, the CBD capsules cause the same phenomenon as CBD oil, and therefore allow to consume CBD throughout the day.

Resins

Cannabis resin, or CBD resin depending on the use and the origin, is another leading product on the market of this green gold.

At 321CBD, you can find quality legal cannabis resin!

This resin is elaborated from the different elements found in the hemp or cannabis plant and results from an extraction process similar to the flower to offer quality products.

We can also find the wax, sometimes called CBD wax, which is a very interesting product with a high concentration of CBD.

E-liquids

E-liquids are products available for electronic cigarettes. These cigarettes are extremely well known around the world since their launch to try to fight against smoking.

These products are without additives and are composed of terpenes to give flavor, as well as a concentration of CBD more or less important.

For those who are into this mode of consumption, we recommend selecting the Juul brand cigarettes, which are available at affordable prices and offer the best quality available on the market.

Pods are also provided with the purchase of cigarette to recharge your electronic cigarette at any time!

Cosmetics

The cosmetic products based on CBD are beginning to stand out more and more on the global market and French.

Real virtues are attributed to them, and it is important to know their compositions or their origins. Indeed, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant virtues are attributed to them and they prove to be effective for localized pains, such as aches and pains after sports or any shock.

To apply them, you can apply the cosmetic product based on CBD, on the area that makes you suffer and massage some time to enjoy the many potentially beneficial effects.

Regarding pure cosmetics, beauty and facial care products are available. These products can firm the skin and give it a youthful appearance while eliminating the excesses positioned on it.

Is there CBD for animals?

It is possible to give CBD to your pets to alleviate the various ailments that can plague them throughout their lives.

For example, on 321CBD, you can select CBD for your animals without difficulty!

Attention all the same, THC is an extremely dangerous molecule for the animals because of its psychotropic effects towards them. Thus, it is necessary not to give them products containing THC to preserve their health.

A study has highlighted the different uses prescribed by users on their animals, such as cats, kittens, dogs and puppies sometimes even horses. Approximately 61-95% of the users felt happy with the effects caused.

Indeed, many effects have been observed including positive effects on inflammation, anxiety, vomiting, tumors and some skin problems.

CBD for animals does not contain the same amount as for humans, and it is necessary to take precautions before administering this molecule. For example, consider that you should start slowly, and administer doses in the range of 0.2 mg while increasing by 0.2 mg each day.

There are also few side effects of CBD administration on animals.

What are the other cannabinoids?

In addition to the most well-known molecules such as CBD and THC, there are many other cannabinoids present in cannabis. Among them, we can find CBG, CBN or CBC. The molecule that is starting to be talked about is CBG or cannabigerol.

What is CBG?

CBG, otherwise known as cannabigerol, is a molecule belonging to the cannabinoid family. More specifically, it is a phytocannabinoid, which differentiates it from endocannabinoids in that it comes from plants and not from the body.

When the products are dried and prepared for sale, CBG is present in small amounts, in the order of 1%. This cannabinoid is the first to be created in cannabis and when it is created, it is present in large quantities.

This molecule is non-psychotropic, and its effects have little impact on the consumer. Among the most common effects, CBG can increase appetite, as proven by this study on rats. It is possible that CBG reduces the development of tumors and has neuroprotective effects. Research is therefore underway.

What are terpenes?

Terpenes are secondary metabolisms mainly present in plants. Each plant has many terpenes in order to have specific aromas. Indeed, a terpene is able to produce a specific aroma. For example, CBD varieties, such as Lemon Haze, have terpenes that combine a smell and taste like lemon.

Terpenes are also found in fruits and vegetables, which also help to give them a specific color and aroma.

What are the effects of CBD?

As mentioned above, CBD is likely to offer various health benefits according to various laboratory studies.

However, according to the current legislation, it is forbidden to attribute therapeutic virtues to CBD. Indeed, CBD is not to be considered as a medicine and should not be considered as such, at the risk of putting your life in danger, if you wish to treat an illness with this molecule. Refer to your doctor before starting to consume CBD products.

Nevertheless, CBD would have beneficial properties on the body and on the mental state of the consumers. Let's take a look at the various alleged beneficial effects.

CBD helps you lose weight

This effect is quite surprising when we talk about it since losing weight is often a problem for many people.

Nevertheless, there is no miracle. When CBD is consumed, it will not act directly on weight loss. In other words, it is going to bind to CB1 and CB2 receptors located in the body, particularly CB2 receptors located in the digestive and immune system. Once arrived at the right point, it will then act on the bad fats by transforming them into good fat, consumable by the body.

This will therefore help to lose weight in the long term, while taking into account the action on the brain, which will be less stressed and therefore less impact on weight gain. As with any dietary supplement, this must be combined with a healthy diet and sports activity.

Does CBD help to sleep?

Many people currently suffer from insomnia or various sleep disorders. For this, many drugs are available in pharmacies and can have effective results on the quality of sleep. But recently, CBD seems to show beneficial effects for this problem.

Indeed, when this molecule is consumed, it allows to regulate stress and anxiety and allows to rest the brain in order to focus on the primary task, which is sleep. This allows for a better and more restful sleep. CBD also allows you to enjoy a longer deep sleep, so that the body can regenerate itself.

CBD helps relieve osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis, or osteoarthritis, is a disease that most often occurs with age, although it can occur after a shock or after the exercise of a combat sport, such as karate or judo.

Very disabling in everyday life, this disease causes various pains and difficulties in moving around. Many drugs are currently marketed, allowing to relieve people suffering from this disorder.

Recently, CBD seems to show beneficial effects on this disease, since in 2017, a researcher, or rather an American rheumatologist, studied the effects of CBD on rats with osteoarthritis. He managed to show that this molecule would relieve the rats of pain, but a second discovery was brought to light. CBD could prevent the risk of osteoarthritis by acting on the development of neuropathic diseases.

CBD fights against fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a disease that is more and more present, but its cause is not well known. The effects of this disease are also very poorly known by scientists, which makes it very difficult to diagnose. Nevertheless, many drugs are available to relieve people suffering from this disease, although they do not allow to cure this disease in its entirety.

For a few years now, CBD seems to show beneficial effects to relieve people suffering from the pain caused by this disease. Three studies have shown both that CBD can regulate pain and stiffness, as well as promote sleep.

Many people suffering from this disease and having consumed CBD have reported that this molecule was more effective than the drugs available on the pharmaceutical market.

CBD acts on hypertension

This effect is not well known among CBD consumers, and comes up very few times when the beneficial effects of CBD are mentioned. However, CBD seems to have a beneficial effect on hypertension.

According to recent studies and research, CBD could reduce hypertension without acting directly on it. Indeed, it acts first on the various risk factors of hypertension, such as stress or anxiety, but also by acting on the bad fat in the body.

All these elements allow to reduce hypertension if it is present, but the best way is still to consult a specialist and to practice a regular physical and sports activity.

CBD has anti-inflammatory effects

This effect is certainly the most popular when it comes to CBD, as it is also one of the first ones revealed to the public.

To do this, CBD must bind to CB1 and CB2 receptors located in the endocannabinoid system, which is naturally present in our body. CB1 receptors control the nervous system and the brain. This is also where the pain information passes through the nerves in our body. So CBD will not treat the cause of that pain, but the sensation of pain, just like a drug we all know. To do this, it will prevent the signals from passing, and reduce their frequency, so that the sensation of pain is no longer present in the brain.

CBD helps to limit depression and burn-out

Thanks to the actions carried out on the CB1 receptors located in the brain, CBD allows to bring balance in certain hormones and to protect the cells.

In particular in the hormone of happiness, which is dopamine. The latter, when activated, allows to regulate the level of stress and to regulate the depressive states on the consumers. In other words, the activation of the happiness hormone allows to limit the proliferation of stress and sadness hormones.

It would also present an antidepressant potential, which can help some people prone to the disorder. By acting on the receptors, it will activate the dopamine and serotonin, which can help a chemical balance in the brain.

This allows to help people suffering from this disorder by improving their daily life.

CBD helps to reduce anxiety and stress

This phenomenon has the same function as on the antidepressant actions of this molecule. Indeed, people with anxiety could feel a real relief when they consume CBD, since it will also bind to the CB1 receptors present in the brain and activate serotonin and dopamine.

The same applies to the daily stress that many people experience. The release of these two hormones helps to limit the damage caused by stress and to bring about a hormonal balance.

Be careful not to consider this molecule as an anxiolytic! CBD is not intended for medical purposes and it is preferable to inquire with a health professional before consuming it.

CBD in the fight against epilepsy

Epilepsy is a disease affecting many millions of people worldwide. These effects can be devastating and very disabling on a daily basis for those who suffer from it.

CBD helps to relieve people suffering from this disease. Various studies have highlighted the beneficial effects of this molecule on the frequency and violence of attacks.

Thus, by consuming CBD, it will then go to the CB1 receptors and allow to reduce the crises by modifying the message sent by the nervous system in the brain.

CBD helps relieve neurodegenerative diseases

Neurological diseases also affect several million people worldwide and can severely handicap the daily life of the victims.

These diseases also include schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease. Medications are available to fight these diseases, but CBD seems to be able to limit the side effects of these neurodegenerative diseases.

When consuming CBD, this molecule will lower the hyperactivation of excitatory neurotransmitters, and thus helps to fight against the death of neurons. This goes for Alzheimer's disease, while Parkinson's disease limits the release of dopamine acting on the neurotransmitter system.

CBD allows, as mentioned above, the release of dopamine in sufficient quantity to reach a hormonal balance, which limits the harmful effects of this disease, such as tremors.

For schizophrenia, CBD also plays a role in hormonal balance and provides more grey matter in the hippocampus area.

The action of CBD on multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory disease of the nervous system that has many negative effects on people who suffer from it. The symptoms suffered are very different depending on the person.

A medication is available today that is the only one that is composed of CBD and THC. This drug is called "Sativex", and it has beneficial effects on multiple sclerosis by reducing the frequency of spasms as well as acting on pain and sleep. These results suggest that CBD could act on the effects of this disease, thanks to the actions we have seen.

CBD in the face of chronic pain

It is important to know that pain is defined in three phases. The first of these is neuropathic pain, then we find the acute pain and finally, the centralized pain.

Chronic pain affects several million people and can have a major impact on their daily lives. Many medications exist to fight against these different types of pain. However, in recent years, CBD seems to have beneficial effects on these symptoms.

By acting on the nervous system, categorized in the CB1 receptors, it can then block the alarming signals of pain generated by the nerves.

CBD against nausea and vomiting

These digestive disorders are also very debilitating for the people who suffer from them. They can occur at any time of the day and can prevent the smooth running of a day.

Nausea and vomiting are usually two phenomena that follow each other and are usually related to illnesses or indigestion.

As CBD acts on the digestive system, and on the nervous system, it would reduce the feeling of nausea that takes place in the medulla oblongata.

Nevertheless, the studies are relatively recent and still not very developed. However, important advances are to be expected in the years to come in the medical world and could advance the legislation of therapeutic cannabis.

This molecule is a non-psychoactive molecule, which means that it has no major side effects. The beneficial effects are very interesting and would allow a great relief for people in suffering.

Which CBD for pain?

To fight against pain, different CBD products are available, such as CBD oils, CBD resin, or CBD flowers.

For this, you will be able to consume CBD in different forms, in order to enjoy the benefits available. It is also important to know that the level of CBD contained in the products can influence the results.

The higher the CBD content in a product, the greater and longer lasting the effects will be.

Thus, there is no specific CBD to fight against pain. It is enough to consume CBD regularly without abusing it.

What are the side effects of CBD?

CBD is a molecule with few side effects when consumed sensibly. Indeed, it is very well assimilated by our body, unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is a psychotropic molecule. The latter causes a change in the consumer's perception of reality. In addition, nausea and vomiting, and even discomfort, can occur following the consumption of THC.

Regarding CBD, there are still some side effects that can occur, such as nausea and dizziness. In addition, if you exceed the daily dose of 1500 mg, you may overdose on CBD and feel very tired. For this, lie down and eat something sweet.

What are the contraindications of CBD?

CBD, although it offers many supposed beneficial effects, may possess some contraindications for consumers.

For example, when consuming CBD with antidepressants or anti-anxiety drugs, it is possible that it alters the drug interaction with the liver and the body. The dangers are real and it is then necessary to space the catches of 2 hours minimum.

A case is however more serious concerning the interactions with CBD. Indeed, anticoagulants are very powerful drugs and allow the blood to become fluid. However, CBD increases this blood thinning and this can be dangerous in case of external injuries, since a hemorrhage will be possible and potentially fatal.

Here is the list of contraindications to drugs:

  • Anticoagulants
  • Antidepressants
  • Anxiolytics
  • Analgesics
  • Beta-blockers
  • Narcoleptics
  • Anti-hyperglycemic
  • Antihistamines
  • Corticosteroids
  • Anticonvulsants
  • Sleeping pills

Regarding situations, CBD is not recommended for children and pregnant women.

Is CBD a drug?

Cannabis is still considered in most parts of the world as a narcotic and therefore a drug.

However, in recent years, several advances have taken place, such as the European Union, which has declared the prohibition of CBD illegal in France. Moreover, the WHO, at the beginning of the year, proclaimed that cannabis was no longer to be considered as a drug. For this organization, cannabis is no longer a drug and the prohibition of THC seems to be coming to an end.

As for CBD, the main point of difference is that this molecule does not cause addiction, unlike THC. CBD products do not contain THC and are therefore free of psychotropic substances.

This product is not illicit in the eyes of the French state, which means that it is not illegal. CBD is therefore totally legal in the member states of the European Union.

CBD should not be confused with cocaine, heroin, or any other form of drug consumed in the world, since the big difference is the non-psychotropic effects of this molecule.

Is CBD legal in France?

Cannabidiol is not subject to any legal framework and its use is tolerated.

Since 2018, entrepreneurs have opened businesses, allowing the distribution of CBD products, tolerated in France if their THC level is less than 0.2%. To date, there are about a hundred such businesses throughout France.

In September 2019, the Bordeaux court ruled in the first and last instance that the French law was unconventional. That is to say, the French law is not in line with European texts on industrial hemp.

In November 2020, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) ruled that the ban in France on the marketing of cannabidiol was illegal, following the lawsuit between the company Kanavape and the French state, stressing that this molecule present in hemp (or Cannabis sativa) has "no psychotropic effect or harmful effect on human health". Mildeca recognizes the legality of cannabidiol but prohibits any therapeutic claim. The Kanavape case is referred to the Court of Appeal of Aix en Provence which must judge this case definitively. The outcome of this trial is expected to be released later this year.

Court of Justice of the European Union, November 19, 2020, n°C-663/18 B S and C A v. Ministère public and Conseil national de l'ordre des pharmaciens.

The French regulation was more restrictive than the European regulation which amounted to a measure with similar effects as quantitative import restrictions, which is prohibited by Article 34 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), (ex-Article 28 TEC).

CBD and saliva testing: what are the results?

Saliva tests are well known for their ability to detect traces of drugs in the saliva of drivers and other road users.

Regarding the different results possible with saliva tests, it should be noted that these tests are effective for THC, and detect mainly this molecule. CBD is not detected on these tests because it is not psychotropic, unlike THC.

Is CBD reimbursed by health insurance companies?

CBD is considered a food supplement in the same way as vitamins available in pharmacies. CBD is therefore not a medicine and is not, as such, reimbursed by either health insurance or complementary health insurance.

Who can prescribe CBD?

CBD, given its status as a food supplement, does not require a medical prescription to obtain it. However, if you wish to use cannabidiol for therapeutic purposes, we recommend that you consult a health professional before starting to take CBD.

It is essential to consider CBD as a supplement, as it is not intended to cure any disease in its own right. The scientific research on this molecule does not allow to define if its consumption could cure a whole disease.
