Reminder on what is CBD
CBD is a molecule naturally present in cannabis, as well as in the hemp plant. Since its discovery in 1947, it has been the subject of much political, social and medical debate
Several studies have attested that CBD has various beneficial actions for the body and for the health of the consumer
- Stress and anxiety reduction;
- Anti-inflammatory effect;
- Improves the quality of sleep;
- Allows you to stop using THC (in some cases);
- Stabilizes mood.
Obviously, many other effects discovered or not, are presented thanks to CBD. It is important to know that this molecule contains very few side effects , such as headaches, fatigue or even nausea in some cases. These side effects do not affect all CBD consumers
In addition, it is very important to differentiate CBD from THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). This molecule, unlike CBD, has psychotropic effects. That is to say that it causes the "high" that some people can feel when they consume recreational cannabis which is, remember, illegal
Another differentiation to make between these two molecules present in the same product. CBD is now in progress at the level of the law. Considered above all as a food supplement and being in a legal limbo in France, it seems that the situation will change in the coming months. The European Union has declared the prohibition of CBD in France illegal and the UN officially recognizes the medical value of cannabis
Currently, in France, CBD must contain 0.2% THC to be considered legal
How is CBD consumed?
In France and around the world, CBD can be consumed in different ways. It should be noted that the mode of consumption varies according to your needs, your preferences or simply your desires
To begin with, CBD can come in the form of CBD flowers which are intended for infusion. These flowers are extracted from the hemp plant which naturally has a very low THC content
We can also find CBD in the form of resins, which are usually related to food use. These resins are also extracted from the hemp plant. You can find our high quality resins in our shop
There are also CBD e-liquids for electronic cigarettes. These products are different since they are generally made on the basis of terpenes that are present in CBD, but also in almost all plants on the planet
CBD oil is certainly the most effective way to consume CBD, as the CBD is directly directed to the bloodstream and then will act much faster. Our CBD oils are designed for this purpose, and you can find them in our shop

What is a saliva test?
You probably know this term that you have already seen in an article, or from the voice of a relative of yours, but do you really know what it is? The saliva test is commonly used by law enforcement to detect certain drugs
This test has a very simplistic, but frighteningly effective way of working since all you have to do is take saliva from the offender and the result is immediate. If the color changes, it means that the offender has recently used drugs, so it will be necessary to determine which drug is being used, although the person arrested will turn themselves in to law enforcement about their use when the test is positive
When is it used?
In most cases, this test is used during traffic stops. The police stop certain people with a suspicious attitude at the wheel or other and proceed to the interpellation.
But that's not all, and some may not know it either, but drug testing is not only done while your vehicle is on the road or moving. In order to detect any risky behaviour, law enforcement agencies are willing to check a stationary vehicle with the engine off. All road users are concerned by this saliva test, including cyclists who may be unaware of it
It is important to remember that drug use is illegal in France and can lead to heavy fines and even prison sentences
- Up to 4500€ fine
- Up to two years in prison
- 6 points off your licence and up to 3 years of cancellation of your driving licence
In France, drugs are a real scourge for road users. In 2019, drugs were responsible for the death of 731 people on the road. This represents about 23% of road deaths. This figure is really high and mostly concerns young drivers
Summary of drugs
The saliva test can detect different drugs and this, whatever their quantities in the blood. Here is the list of drugs that can be detected by the saliva test
- Cannabis(THC) is detectable 6 to 10 hours after its consumption for occasional use and 24 hours to 8 days for regular use
- Amphetamines are detectable up to 40 to 60 hours after use
- Cocaine and crack are detectable 24 to 48 hours after use
- Opiates are detectable 36 to 48 hours after use.
It is important to remember that it is forbidden to refuse a salivary test under the risk of receiving two years of imprisonment, 4500€of fine and 6 points less on the driving licence for refusal to comply
We will now see the different links between CBD and saliva tests
CBD contains a low level of THC
As you probably know, during saliva tests, law enforcement agencies are essentially looking for traces of THC, which is responsible for the "high" effect on the consumer. The dangers of THC are numerous
- Delusional manifestations ;
- Hallucinations (high THC use) ;
- Isolation;
- Complicated withdrawal (nausea, irritability...).
This molecule, responsible for the disabling side effects of recreational cannabis use, is the main danger of cannabis use. For example, if you perform an activity that requires increased alertness, you increase the chances of having or causing an accident
Because of its low THC content, CBD is totally different from THC, as it does not cause psychotropic effects. In other words, in a saliva test, CBD is less likely to be detected than if you use recreational cannabis
But be careful! It is important to know that studies are lacking on this subject and that it is possible to have a positive saliva test for cannabis if your CBD consumption is significant, which includes a higher amount of THC in your blood, or if your base product does not have a level of less than 0.2% of THC
It is also important to know that as of today, CBD is becoming more and more known to the authorities, but the responsibility is on your shoulders and it is up to you to manage your consumption
In case of dispute following your consumption of CBD and the appearance of a positive result in THC, you can perform a urine test or a blood test to determine the level of THC present in your blood
CBD is not specifically looked for in saliva tests!
During a saliva test, CBD is not the most sought after product. Indeed,CBD does not have any negative effect on the consumer, i.e. it does not modify the mood, the behavior and does not cause the "high" effect. When performing a saliva test, most of the time, law enforcement will first look for the presence of THC
Cannabis is the most widely used drug in France, especially among French youth. In order to avoid accidents during roadside checks, the police will therefore target users of this drug
Of course, the presence of cocaine, ecstasy and other substances are also sought because they can be extremely dangerous for the driver, as well as being dangerous for other road users
We do not guarantee the fact that CBD is not searched for, or that your body does not have the presence of THC, as each body reacts differently and the effects are also variable from one individual to another.
How long after is CBD detectable in the saliva test?
Because CBD is neither mind-altering nor addictive, it is not considered a drug by law enforcement or legislators. Remember that the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) ruled in favor of CBD with less than 0.2% THC, as did the Council of State, which does not consider CBD to be a narcotic product.
Rather than CBD, it is mainly the presence of THC in your body that can lead to a positive saliva test. Indeed, the saliva test does not quantify the level of THC present in the body of the person tested. It merely detects the presence of the substance, regardless of the quantity, no matter how small.
As a general rule, in the case of moderate and occasional consumption, traces of THC in CBD can be detected for 6 to 8 hours in the saliva test. If the consumption is moderate but regular (several times a week), the traces of THC contained in the CBD will be detectable for 24 hours in the saliva test. Finally, if the consumption is both high and daily, the traces of THC contained in the CBD can be detectable in the saliva test up to 7 days after the last intake. This period may even be longer if the user mainly consumes CBD flowers in infusion, decoction or macerated drink.
What CBD products should you consume to ensure a margin of safety?
As with any type of consumption, certain consumption patterns can make it easier for the saliva test to become positive. As a consumer, you need to choose the right mode of CBD administration according to your needs, but also according to the risks involved
As you know, there are different modes of CBD consumption, such as oils, flowers, resin or electronic cigarette e-liquid. Some modes of consumption will be more likely to result in a positive saliva test
Fact known but yet ignored by many people, the flowers of CBD intended for the infusion, seem more likely to generate a positive test. Indeed, these flowers, although the plant has a low natural THC content of no more than 0.2%, may contain more THC on the final product than other CBD products, such as oils or capsules. It will therefore be important for you to pay attention to your CBD consumption and on the right choice of your products related to your supplier
At 321CBD, we are not responsible for the end use of products and the penalties that consumers face
Thus, we advise you a consumption based on CBD oils which are available on our site in order to limit the risks related to the consumption of CBD
Vaping CBD would seem to be promising on saliva tests?
CBD e-liquids are intended for users of electronic cigarettes. This new mode of consumption competing with tobacco, or helping tobacco users to have a constant supply of nicotine in the brain is booming
The CBD has adapted and seems to seduce many users. Although there are rumours that vaping CBD is safe and does not pose a risk to saliva testing, it is important to get the facts straight
When you vape CBD with e-liquids, you are taking in CBD and very little THC. However, consuming CBD is a major risk if you drive afterwards, or if you are in a risky activity. It is important to understand that CBD can cause drowsy episodes on some consumers
Of course, your THC level will not be significant, or even zero, but you will still have to be responsible and vigilant in order not to put yourself and the people around you in danger
We appeal to your responsibility!
CBD, which is not a medicine, can have a side effect on consumers that can be dangerous in certain situations. It has been reported that CBD consumption can cause drowsy episodes on the consumer
Fatigue is also one of the main risk factors for road accidents! We therefore appeal to your responsibility and vigilance in order not to be a victim or responsible for this
We strongly advise you to avoid consuming CBD when you have to drive or ride a motorcycle within minutes or hours. CBD is known for its relaxing effect and greatly facilitates sleep, which is why it is important not to drive after consuming CBD
As with some medications, side effects vary from person to person and may not be present on the consumer at times. But, sometimes it only takes one time for the effect to be felt and it can quickly become dramatic if the situation is not conducive to it
Be careful with your CBD dosage
The amount of CBD absorbed to feel the effects can vary from one person to another. It is very important to watch your dosage and to respect it as much as possible. Each body reacts differently to CBD and we will see that together
A normal and dailyuse of CBD (adapted to your morphology) will allow you to avoid feeling too important side effects. Obviously, this can still vary from one consumer to another.
If you consume too much CBD on a daily basis, or occasionally, you will feel more drowsy, since as we have seen above, CBD is an excellent relaxant and greatly facilitates sleep. This is where you will be subject to an increased risk of road accidents if you get behind the wheel or test positive on saliva tests.
That's why it's extremely important to start with the minimum dose prescribed by your supplier and increase as you go along if the effects are not felt.
